Hey Guys! So sorry that I have been MIA since fashion week! Playing catch up has gotten the best of me! I am finally so excited to finally share with you all my third NYFW experience!
I was originally supposed to fly in on Thursday, but of course, with my “Murphy” luck, a blizzard came out of no where and caused my flight to be canceled (that’s right.. not delayed.. CANCELED!). AHH I spent all Thursday night on the phone with the airlines and hotels trying to rearrange my schedule. I was so sad and disappointed that I missed some of my most anticipated shows, Tadashi and Noon x Noor. I heard and saw amaaaazing things from both, so I just wanted to send some love their way!
Friday morning we finally arrived in NY! YAY! My husband and I met up with my mother-in-law and my sister Lura at our hotel in Time Square and our trip had officially begun! It worked out perfect that my mother-in-law and husband got to do some major sight seeing while Lura and I were off to our shows!
Our first show Friday was Hakan Akkaya at the Skylight at Clarkson Square, and HOLE-E-CRAP!!! What a way to kick off fashion week! Usually at shows everyone seems to be super polite and tries not to make any noise or comments, but for this show I don’t think anyone could help themselves! With every piece that walked out there was a constant stream of comments like “oh yyeaaa”, “W\work it”, “YEESS”, “oh my gosh”, “loooove it”. It makes me laugh because I can literally hear all the comments in my videos! So funny! It amazes me that even though the entire collection was in black, Hakan gave show stopper after show stopper. Bravo!!!
After that show Lura and I raced uptown to Hearst Tower to meet my dear friend Melissa! We had lunch in the cafe and were able to tour the building 🙂 The views are aaaamazing! Melissa actually just launched her own blog Sweet Maitea! Be sure to check it out!
We ended the day with the largest pizza we could get our hands on! We went to Juliana’s in Brooklyn right next to the Brooklyn Bridge! It was the best pizza I’ve had in a very long time! If you go, be sure to get there early! We were lucky because I heard the line sometimes wraps all the way down the street!
Day two started out a little more relaxing. We got to sleep in and do a little sight seeing with the family. Then Lura and I headed to the Shop Style Event at Canoe Studios! I can’t say enough about this event. They really went all out! There were several collections out for us to choose pieces from to wear while we were in NY. How fun is that! And GiGi New York was there embossing leather file folders for everyone that attended! There was also a hair, make up, and nail bar for us to get touched up for the rest of the day 🙂 Over all the event was one of my favorite! (some of the photos below credit to LuraPhotography)
The next stop was back to the Skylight at Clarkson Square for Francesca Liberatore. I was so upset I had to miss her show last year, so I was so excited to be invited back this season. She is one of my favorite designers. Her collection had a great mix of athleisure and formal pieces. And I loved her print selection! She had a top notch collection yet again!
Sunday started out as a bit of a bummer… I was so excited to have brunch with my fellow Style Collective sisters, but no sooner than I arrived I got a call from Lura letting me know she had to head back home. Her flight was canceled (yet again) due to bad weather causing her to have to leave early. I rushed back to say bye to her (and check on my own flight) before heading right back out to my next appointment.
Pause, so at the Skylight where all the shows take place, each sponsor has there own little set up outside the showrooms. One of the sponsors is TRESemme and they had a whole salon set up at their space! I had the privilege to get my hair done in one of the signature NYFW looks. It was such a fun experience! I chose this half up braid that really helped to elevate my whole look! I got done just in time to hop over to my next show.. Leanne Marshall.
Every season I look forward to Leanne Marshall the most! She will always have a special place in my heart because she was my very first NYFW show ever! But more than that, her collections are always so soft, etherial and feminine! Every dress that walks the runway literally takes my breath away! This season was no exception. I love how she started with a more muted color palette, and then out of no where, out pops the most gorgeous red I have ever seen! It was an unforgettable moment and really made a statement!
Over all this fashion week showed us some amazing trends to start planning for next fall/winter! Some new, and some that are sticking around for another season! Here they are:
– Reconstructed bottom up menswear tops
– Wide ankle crop jeans
– Ankle boots/block heals
– Shearling coats
– Bell Sleeves
– Red & Yellow
I hope you enjoyed this one! And stay tuned in the coming weeks for some really great collaborative content! I’m super excited to share it all with you!!
